Three tips for including your dog in family portraits { Nashville Portrait Photographers }

Dogs are family, too!

When you’re planning a family photo session, there is plenty that is on your mind. Where will we do our session? What will we all wear? It might be easy to overlook one very important member of the family: your dog!

Tips for including dogs in family portraits

If you’re thinking about bringing your dog along for your professional family portrait session, here are some things to consider that will help everything go smoothly.

  1. Ask a friend to come along as a designated dog handler. This will give you the opportunity to have some family photos made that don’t include your dog, and you won’t have to worry about him feeling left out or finding a place to tie him so he doesn’t get loose.

  2. Bring plenty of treats! This might be a no-brainer, but having a handful of treats for you and your photographer to use to get puppy’s attention will help your session move along.

  3. Don’t forget a lint roller! Let’s face it- dogs shed. You don’t want to be covered in dog hair in your family photos!

Family photos at Bicentennial Mall

Last fall, Chris & Dawn met me at Bicentennial mall for an anniversary session. I was lucky enough to photograph their wedding about 5 years ago, and they were ready for an updated photo. Their pup was rambunctious for sure, but also just as sweet as could be.
